2019: Governor Lalong to re-contest, dares minister Dalung
From Muhammad Tanko in Jos
Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has on Friday, opened up on his intent to re-contest his seat come 2019.
The governor’s declaration of intent was preceded by a compelling motion which sought for it, as moved by a Federal lawmaker, representing Jos East/Jos South, Federal constituency, Hon Edward Pwajok, at the All Progressives Congress
(APC) stakeholders meeting held in Yelwa club Bukuru.
Plateau State Commissioner of Information and Communications, Hon. Yakubu Dati, said in a media statement that the motion was seconded unanimously, adding that the governor had yielded to pressure from people of the State and other stakeholders to re-contest the governorship seat.
In the statement Datti, said the meeting was chaired by the State Chairman of the party, Mr. Latep Dabang, and had in attendance the entire executive members of the party in the state.
He said the Deputy Governor and members of the State Executive Council, Hon. Speaker and APC members of both the Plateau State House of Assembly and the National Assembly were also in the meeting.
The governor’s declaration followed that of Senator Jeremiah Tumbut Useni, of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), penultimate week, at the party secretariat.
Politics Today, observed that there are many aspirants that have indicated their interest mainly in the PDP, by ways of posters, with only one person showing interest in the platform of the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM), while so far only Lalong, has openly done that, though body language of the Minister of Youths and Sports development, Solomon Dalung, is also pointing towards recontesting with the incumbent governor, as was done in the 2015 primaries.
