2019 governorship: Tension in Kaduna PDP as group rejects Ashiru
The Shuaibu Idris Miqati Support Group, made up of supporters of one of the aspirants that contested the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primary in Kaduna State has kicked against the process of the primary.
The Kaduna PDP primary was won by Isa Ashiru Kudan.
The group which led a protest to the state secretariat of the PDP in Kaduna state in a letter it presented to the state secretary of the party faulted the process of the primary saying there were irregularities and lack of sincerity in the exercise.
The letter signed by the group’s secretary, Al-Bab Abdullahi said there were short-counting of votes, open financial inducement of delegates, and threats to delegates at the venue of the primary.
“It is also clearly uncontested that Alh. Idris Miqati is among the few PDP chieftains that has never defected or decamped to any other party and has continually out of his loyalty, supported the party in all ramifications but has always been meted with heavy betrayals,” the group said.
State secretary of the PDP, Ibrahim Aliyu Wursono, who received the group appeared shocked at the protest saying the process of the primary had long been concluded and the committee that conducted it had long gone back only for such a protest to be coming up now.
He said before the primary held, all the aspirants agreed to the process and the methods used and that even after the election they hugged and congratulated the winner only for such a protest to be coming weeks after.
