2019: Hunaiza Abubakar joins House of Reps race
By Hadiza Mohammed in Abuja
A young enterprising woman, Hunaiza Abubakar, believed to be the only female in the 2019 race in Sokoto State has joined the battle for House Representatives. She is hoping to represent Sokoto South-North seat at the lower chamber.
A cross-section of respondents told Politics Today on telephone that Hon Hunaiza Abubakar will be good for the office and she would help do away with some stereotypes about how well northern women can play politics and use it effectively as a tool for societal development. Others, however, are hopeful if her chances would be bright in an era of moneybag politics. But majority of the female respondents have endorsed Hon Hunaiza, arguing that until women take centre-stage in northern politics, they would be missing out on a whole lot, of the dividends of democracy.
Hon Hunaiza belongs to the National Rescue Movement and some observers said whichever platform she chose to run on, she will still make the difference as a woman from the historic northern caliphate.
Malam Ibrahim Idris, a teacher in Sokoto said Hon Hunaiza needs the goodwill of powerful political forces in Sokoto, to pull the strings in 2019
