Breaking: Kaduna Abuzz as Uba Sani Reaffirms ‘Workers First’ Agenda

Kaduna was abuzz with chants of solidarity and renewed hope on Wednesday as Governor Uba Sani led a powerful show of support for workers during the 2025 May Day celebration at Murtala Square. With the governor reaffirming his administration’s ‘Workers First’ agenda, the event marked a turning point in labour-government relations in the state. Flanked by his Deputy, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, and other senior government officials, Governor Sani’s presence underscored a commitment that resonated with thousands of civil servants gathered at the iconic venue.
Governor Sani, addressing the workers and union leaders, restated his belief that “no government can succeed without a motivated and fairly-treated workforce.” He highlighted key reforms and ongoing welfare initiatives aimed at uplifting the Kaduna State civil service, describing workers as “the engine room of governance and development.”
One of the standout achievements of the Sani administration has been the launch of a N500 million revolving loan scheme designed to provide financial relief for civil servants. This intervention, which complements renewed investments in staff training and capacity building, has been lauded by labour leaders as both timely and impactful.
Governor Sani also pledged to continue investing in critical sectors tied to worker welfare—including healthcare, education, housing, and support for micro and small businesses. “Our ‘Workers First’ agenda is not just a slogan—it is the core of our social contract,” he declared.
Pensioners also used the occasion to commend the administration for paying over N10.4 billion in outstanding liabilities. Union leaders expressed optimism, noting that the current administration has demonstrated a sincerity of purpose lacking in the past.
Recall that the positive tone of the day extended beyond the square. Reverend John Joseph Hayab, former Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kaduna State, recently praised Governor Sani’s leadership style, calling it a “positive deviation” from the past and pointing to the governor’s people-first approach as a unifying force across the state.
Stakeholders believe that as the Workers’ Day celebration came to a close with songs, cultural displays, and goodwill messages, it was evident that a new chapter of mutual trust and constructive engagement is unfolding between the Kaduna State Government and the workforce—anchored on respect, action, and shared progress.
