Aborted lay-off: Senate, CBN synergy is paying off – Northwest Women
By Nasir Dambatta
The Northwest Women Cooperative Society has described as “sweet relief” the action of the Central Bank and Bankers Committee in stopping the looming mass sack in the industry.
It also stated that the development was “a clear indication that the synergy between the CBN, Bankers Committee and the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions chaired by Senator Uba Sani of Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone is paying off”.
The group, in a statement signed by its Chairperson, Habiba Muhammad said the Apex bank has done “something spectacular” by ensuring that jobs would no longer be lost.
The women also noted that had the action of stopping the impending lay-off not been taken, it would have further worsened the current unemployment challenges in Nigeria.
The statement also described the effort of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions as regards the Stamp Duty issue as “yet another step in the right direction”, adding that the committee’s fight to recover AMCON debt was “an impressive new approach to a lingering issue”.
It called on Northern lawmakers, especially at the upper chamber of the National Assembly to “borrow a leaf from Senator Uba Sani’s robust style of oversight functions.”
