The Northeast Peace Forum (NPC) has carpeted Senstor Ali Ndhme over what it considered his unguarded utterances against the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai.
In a media release signed by the group’s Chairman, Musa Isa Biu and made available to newsmen, the group said it was unfortunate that “as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Ndume would stoop so low to accuse the army chief of trying to distract public attention with comments about coup cup d’tat.
The group, in the statement, noted that Buratai has given the fight against insurgency his best shot and worked to keep the Nigerian army as one united front for the promotion of national security.
NPF, in the statement, said “only those who are blinded by self-serving reasons would fail to see the tireless efforts of Buratai to professionalize the Nigerian army, initiate welfare reforms and enthroned discipline.”
The group advised Senator Ndume to “always look before he leaped and stop this unwarranted personality attack on Buratai” .
Describing Ndume’s recent criticism against Buratai as “unhealthy because it’s not only unfounded, belittling is this lawmaker’s stance and a smear on decorum”.
“We are unhappy that the Senator, who hails from the same immediate constituency of the Northeast with the army chief, would resort to unnecessary bickering at this point where the nation badly needs unity amongst all relevant stakeholders to achieve lasting peace”, the group declared.
