Breaking: Elrufai opens up on next Zazzau emir
Governor Nasir Elrufai of Kaduna State has stated that the selection of the sucessor to late emir of Zazzau Alhaji Shehu Idris has reached advanced stage, a statement by his spokesman, Mr. Muyiwa Adekeye has revealed.
In a statement made available to Politics Today, Mr. Adekeye, who is the Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Communications noted that the selection procedure for the next Emir of “is proceeding with the careful attention befitting such a momentous decision”.
Quoting Secretary to the State Government Balarabe Abbas Lawal as giving update on the exercise, the spokesman said that “the procedure is for the kingmakers of Zazzau Emirate to address their recommendations to the Commissioner of Local Government Affairs, who will in turn process the document and forward to the office of the SSG.”
The statement explained that as soon as such correspondence from the commissioner, reaches the SSG’s office “will avail the security agencies of the names on the shortlist for the necessary checks. It is the duty of the SSG to forward the recommendations and the associated security report to the Governor for his consideration.
“The SSG stated that he can confirm that the report of the kingmakers has now been submitted to the Commissioner of Local Government, a step that will trigger the next sequence of events in the chain of reporting and security vetting”, the release noted.
The governor’s spokesman, in the statement, concluded this: “On behalf of the Kaduna State Government, the SSG appealed for calm and understanding as the responsible institutions manage a selection process that last used 45 years ago.”
