Breaking: Group rejects Elrufai’s plan to join the private sector

The Arewa Initiative for Good Governance has rejected Governor Nasir Elrufai’s reported plan to join the private sector at the end of his tenure on May 29th, describing the governor’s plan as unacceptable.

A media statement signed by the group’s Convener, Comrade Salisu Tanko on Tuesday said its stand followed wide consultations with progressive like-minds and found reasons not let Elrufai sneak out of the political terrain into private sector, insisting his guidance and active participation is still badly needed on the country’s Nigerian democratic space

The group, in the statement, gave one of its reason for insisting Elrufai remains at the centre-stage of national politics, at least as Secretary to the Government of the Federation( SGF) under the incoming APC government, led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It noted that all interest groups across Nigeria have been canvassing for one of their own and wondered why Elrufai admirers and political fans were slow in their call for him to step forward.

“Undoubtedly, he ( Elrufai) has deep and uncommon knowledge of the technocratic principles of technocratic principle and vast experience of the dynamics of civil service, which sharpened  his acumen as the Director BPE, Minister of FCT and two-term governor of the most intricately complex State of Kaduna where he did historically well”, the group said.

They described Elrufai as a leader whose fearlessness has helped his ability to deliver on all his national assignments without fear  of the so-called untouchables and quasi-cabals.

The group, in the statement: ” Unarguably, to lose a personality with the kind of breath and pedigree, accolades and international outreach is tantamount to betrayal of national trust and hanging the incoming President  in the sun to dry. Not only will that be denying the Nigerian populace his vast and I depth knowledge  of political chess-gane and electoral countermeasure, which had always prevented the APC from certain debacle.”

It also recalled how the man stood for truth and justice and led the charge against moves to shortchange the South from accessing presidential power under Tinubu and openly fought the unpopular cash swap policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria, an act that brought to the fore his love for Nigerian masses.

Comrade Tanko, in the statement, noted that the group has already written letters to influential  members of the executive arm of government  to give unconditional backing for Elrufai to continue his altruistic service to the nation on the democratic space.
