Breaking: Jubilation in Kaduna as Dr. Tafida returns to PDP
There was wild jubilation in Kaduna on Thursday when news filtered out that Dr. Dr. Jibril Tafida has defected back to the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) from the ruling All Progressive Party( APC).
The news went viral on social media when top leadership of the opposition party took turns to congratulate Tafida for what one of them described as “returning to base at the right time”.
Sources close to the Anguwan Sanusi Ward PDP leadership said the development came after it became impossible for Dr. Tafida to resist the pressure to come back.
“We need a tactician, a philanthropist and someone with very strong grassroots base to help us coast home to victory”, Hajiya Hadiza Ahmed a party faithful in Tudun Wada told reporters, shortly after the news of the defection dominated the social media”.
Efforts to reach Dr. Tafida, who was once the PDP Electoral Panel Chairman for Akwa Ibom State during Obasanjo era, for his comments proved difficult as at press time.
A cross-section of PDP members in the State said Dr. Tafida’s return would give a big boost to the chances of the opposition party in next year’s general elections.
There are concerns that ruling APC has been battling internal bickerings at state and national levels in recent years, leading to crisis, barely less than a year to the 2023 general elections.
