Kaduna State has once again solidified its leadership in healthcare excellence, emerging as the best-performing state in the northwest region at the 2024 Primary Health Care (PHC) Leadership Challenge. The state was honored with a prestigious $500,000 cash prize during a gala hosted by the Nigerian Governors’ Forum at the Banquet Hall of Aso Villa, Abuja.

In addition to this latest recognition, Kaduna recently ranked second among the top ten Nigerian states with “functional healthcare facilities,” reflecting the significant strides the state has made in strengthening its healthcare system.

Senator Uba Sani’s administration’s rise also came through ensuring that healthcare services are accessible and effective for all residents.

The recognition from the PHC Leadership Challenge further affirms the state’s efforts in prioritizing healthcare infrastructure and services.

Stakeholders said the award was a reflection of dedication of the administration to revolutionizing primary healthcare delivery.

“The recognition reaffirms Kaduna’s position as a trailblazer in healthcare investments, reflecting its innovative strategies and focused leadership”, said Dr. Abubakar Garba, answering questions from newsmen on the sidelines of the event.

The PHC Leadership Challenge, an initiative led by the Nigerian Governors’ Forum in collaboration with global partners like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, UNICEF, Aliko Dangote Foundation, and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), rewards states for exceptional achievements in healthcare.

Kaduna’s remarkable feat at the challenge highlights its strides in expanding access to healthcare, improving health outcomes, and prioritizing public health. The $500,000 prize will bolster ongoing projects, further enhancing the state’s primary healthcare system to serve its citizens better.

Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe received the award on behalf of the government.

With this latest recognition, Kaduna continues to set the bar for effective healthcare delivery, cementing its status as a model state in the region and beyond.
