As part of his contribution to cushion the effect of lock down posed by Coronavirus particularly in the holy month of Ramadan, the Senator representing Kano Central, Ibrahim Shekarau has empowered over 4,000 constituents in his Senatorial district. This brings the total of the first batch of funds released to the constituents to N40 million.
The Senator is reported to have donated the sum 10,000 Naira to each of the beneficiaries in his senatorial district.
According to a statement issued on Friday by his media aide, Dr Sule Ya’u Sule, 10 people have been selected to benefit from the scheme in each of the 172 wards of the 15 Local Governments areas that constitute the Kano Central, thereby bringing a total of about 1,720 beneficiaries.
Similarly, over 1,300 various interest groups will equally be empowered by the Senator’s intervention.
The statement added that the intervention is part of Senator Shekarau’s annual tradition of empowering the less-privileged in the state.
He therefore urged the beneficiaries to use the intervention judiciously, especially now that the state battles with the lock down necessitated by Coronavirus pandemic.
Shekarau then enjoined people to use the holy month of Ramadan to intensify their efforts in praying for God to bring an end to the pandemic.
In its swift reaction, a youth group in Kaduna, Arewa Progressives Assembly (APA) commended the Kano Central lawmaker for the gesture, adding that “Malam has done something quite spectacular, at this critical moment in the life of Kano people, ravaged by the Covid-19 pandemic.”
The statement, which was signed by its Chairman Malam Abdullahi Almannar, urged politicians in the country to emulate the virtues of the Kano Central Senator by providing “badly-needed support for those in need”.
