The Acting Director of Corporate Communications at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mrs. Sidi Ali Hakama, has called on finance correspondents and business editors across the country to play a more strategic role in fostering public trust and understanding of financial policies.

She made the call while delivering the welcome and opening remarks at the 36th Seminar for Finance Correspondents and Business Editors, held for the first time in Abuja at Ibeto Hotels, Apo, from Monday, April 14 to Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

Addressing a gathering of top media professionals and economic analysts, Mrs. Hakama emphasized the critical importance of media collaboration in achieving the Bank’s broader objectives, particularly its drive toward banking recapitalization and Nigeria’s ambition of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

“This seminar is designed not just to educate, but to empower you—the media—to accurately interpret and communicate complex financial policies in a manner that builds public confidence and ensures accountability,” she said.

Hakama described the seminar as a flagship engagement platform designed to deepen mutual understanding between the Bank and the media. According to her, it also serves as a feedback mechanism through which the CBN can gauge public sentiment and refine its communication strategy.

Highlighting the importance of the media in national development, she noted: “As Nigeria positions itself more competitively in the global economic arena, the role of the media becomes even more pivotal—not just as conveyors of information but as partners in economic progress.”

She further encouraged visiting participants to explore the serene and vibrant culture of Abuja, describing the city as a fitting backdrop for meaningful dialogue between policymakers and media professionals.

The two-day seminar features renowned speakers and panelists who are expected to provide deep insights into the regulatory and strategic issues shaping Nigeria’s financial sector.
