The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening collaboration with the media as it accelerates strategic reforms to position Nigeria as a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
Speaking at the opening of the 36th Seminar for Finance Correspondents and Business Editors held in Abuja for the first time, Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mrs. Sidi Ali Hakama, described the media as a “strategic partner in national development” and underscored the Bank’s resolve to foster transparency, policy clarity, and public trust through consistent engagement.
“This seminar was established with a clear purpose—to educate and enhance the capacity of finance correspondents and business editors,” Mrs. Hakama said, adding that the annual engagement had become “a credible platform for continuous learning, professional development, and mutual partnership.”
This year’s edition, themed around banking recapitalization and Nigeria’s trillion-dollar ambition, features a lineup of seasoned speakers and panelists expected to provide deeper insights into the regulatory, operational, and strategic dimensions of financial sector reform.
“The impressive turnout of participants and the genuine interest it continues to generate among media practitioners stand as eloquent testimony to its relevance,” she noted.
Mrs. Hakama emphasized that the CBN values media feedback and counts on journalists not only to simplify complex policy issues but also to hold institutions accountable in a way that strengthens confidence in the nation’s financial system.
Participants from Lagos and other parts of the country were urged to take time to enjoy the sights and serenity of Abuja, which she described as a fitting location “where policy meets practice.”
She thanked the media for their professionalism and called on them to take full advantage of the seminar to sharpen their knowledge and contribute meaningfully to the country’s economic transformation.
