Following a “false and libellous story of attack” on Senator Shehu Sani published in The Guardian newspaper, legal counsels to Malam Uba Sani, Governor Nasir Elrufai’s Political Adviser are set to sue the Kaduna Central Senator for libel.

The lawyers resolve came on the heels of their visit to a Barnawa Magistrate court in Kaduna to find out why their client was not invited by the court to clear his name, only for their client to read about it in The Guardian.

The Political Adviser’s lawyer, while speaking to newsmen in Barnawa expressed shock by the discovery that the name of the suspect described in the newspaper as being sponsored by the Elrufai aide to attack Senator Shehu was fake. He also explained that “the address of the so-called suspect, given as No. 2 Rafin Guza is an uncompleted building”.

The visibly disturbed lawyer also revealed that nowhere in the proceedings of the Magistrate court was Malam Uba Sani’s name ever mentioned, adding that “the newspaper report was built around a suspicious police First Information Report (FIR) and we have every reason to believe it was a smokescreen, politically-motivated and designed to dent the image of our client and his Political ambition.

“The so-called FIR that Shehu Sani friends in The Guardian used in writing the libellous story, failed to mention the house belonging to the Senator that was attacked or any such evidence, which exposed the whole story as dirty political propaganda against our client”.

The lawyers declared that “consequently, we will file a suit in court to demand compensation for the false, malicious and politically-motivated media attack sponsored by Senator Shehu Sani against our client.

“We are all too familiar with the accidental Senator’s antecedents of incitement, falsification through cheap propaganda; and now is the time to apply the law to bring an end to his dirty antics”, the lawyers stressed.

Mala Uba Sani’s forthcoming libel suit will bring to two, the number of libel cases against Senator Shehu Sani, after the one filed against him by Governor Nasir Elrufai months ago.
