IGR: Citizens’ cooperation ‘ll guarantee Kaduna tax reforms’ swift success –Commissioner
By Nasir Dambatta
The Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Mukhtar Ahmed has emphasized that Kaduna State’s ambitious goal of generating N150 billion monthly from taxes can best be realized with the full cooperation of its residents. He warned that without active participation in tax compliance, the state’s reform efforts may struggle to achieve the desired impact quickly.
The Commissioner reiterated this position of the State government at a stakeholders forum on Wednesday, themed “Unlocking Revenue Potential: A Collaborative Strategy for Sustainable Growth through a Centralised Payment Gateway in Kaduna State”.
Ahmed highlighted that a strong Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) is essential for sustainable development. He urged citizens to support the state by fulfilling their tax obligations, noting the risks of relying solely on federal allocations.
To facilitate this change, Ahmed announced that implementation plans for a centralized payment gateway and enhanced inter-agency collaboration have reached advanced stage. He outlined a strategy involving 13 key revenue-generating agencies, each with a monthly target of N1 billion.
Ultimately, Muktar stressed that the success of these initiatives depends on a partnership between the government and its citizens, turning budget aspirations into tangible outcomes.
