Infighting: APC may be no more in 2023, says group
A group, the Arewa Agenda 2023 has declared that “unless the current infighting” in APC across the States and national levels is tackled, the party “may die before the next election”.
In a media statement by the group in Kaduna at the weekend signed by its Publicity Secretary, Haruna Abubakar, the group said as from 2019 the ruling party has been enmeshed in internecine wars that have further ripped it apart.
Abubakar argued that the party may have been hijacked by selfish politicians ” whose personal agenda of self-preservation has continued to undermine internal democracy and cohesion at all levels.
He noted that the infighting in the ruling party was festering because many “have been hurt, used-and-dumped, leading to sharp divisions and persistent clashes”.
The statement noted that if by 2023 the APC sunk, “it must have been the failure of the both the leadership and elected representatives to sheath their swords, while indulging in avoidable fights for domination and control”.
The group also said that the National Reconciliation Committee of the APC should have been encouraged to round up its assignment and submit its report in order to save the party from imminent death.
The ruling party has come under heat in recent months over increasing insecurity challenges, poverty and avoidable infighting, especially at the States levels.
