Kashim Shettima: Architect of modern Borno
By Yakubu Ahmed-BK
With elections over and a 100% successful turnover, Governor (Senator-Elect) Kashim Shettima’s assignment has duly and most fittingly been completed. With his choice of one of the most qualified square pegs and most roundly applauded successor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum zooming into office in the most stylish manner, all other accolades rushing in, in multitudes have become mere icing on the cake of the sweet victory that has redefined leadership.
When you add this up with an all-work action-packed tenure of eight years that was, without let, characterized by Nigeria’s most challenging security breach, you have before you a Governor that has rewritten history books and carved a niche for himself as the undisputed architect of modern Borno.
Your perspective may be different from his and this is not unexpected in a politically charged and sensitive place like Borno. But politics apart, I do not see how anybody can, in all honesty, hinder Kashim Shettima’s match to the hall of fame.
