The Kaduna State Chapter of Nigerian Bar Association, hailed Governor Nasir Elrufai’s handling of the latest  “despicable, avoidable” security challenge  that “bedeviled some parts of Kaduna State particularly at Kasuwan Magani, which unfortunately spread into Kaduna metropolis and its immediate environs.

“The NBA, in a media release made available  to newsmen  in Kaduna on Saturday and signed by its State chapter Chairman, Sule Shu’aibu (Esq) condemned in strong terms the  “gruesome killings, loss of innocent lives and destruction of properties in the affected areas”.

On the strategy so far adopted by Governor Elrufai with the support of security agencies, the lawyers’ body declared :”We wish to also commend the swiftness with which His Excellency, the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufa’i and the Kaduna State Government in conjunction with the security agencies have thus far tackled the sad and unfortunate incidence. The proactive steps by the government towards containing the incidences and the excesses of certain persons in the society is worthy of note.”
The NBA also expressed its “sincere and heartfelt condolences to all those who lost relations, loved ones and their properties”, while extending the body’s condolences to the people of Adara Chiefdom “and indeed the entire people and Government of Kaduna State over the demise of the Agom Adara, Dr. Maiwada Galadima (JP).

“We join numerous sympathizers in praying for the repose of his soul and the souls of all those that have departed in these trying times”, the statement further noted.

“This period calls for sober reflection by all well meaning people of Kaduna State. The senseless, barbaric and ignoble killings and destruction of properties must come to an end. We call on the government of Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufa’i not to leave any stone unturned in their efforts at identifying the remote and immediate cause of this recurring crisis, while all those involved in one way or the other must be identified and exposed with the view of making them to face the full wrath of the law.” the lawyers’ body declared.

The NBA also assured the government of Kaduna State of “the willingness and desirability of the NBA Kaduna Branch to contribute its quota and deploy her members in ensuring that all those genuinely identified, investigated and found to be involved in the wanton killings and destruction of properties are prosecuted, to serve as deterrence to people of like minds.”

While calling on “the good people of Kaduna State to be very watchful of miscreants, report same to security agencies and to avoid peddling rumours which has been identified as part of the factors that fuelled this sad incidence we are currently facing”, the NBA counselled the people to shun bitterness, especially along religious lines.
The NBA Kaduna Branch then tasked “all religious, traditional/Community leaders and Leaders of thought all over the State” redouble their efforts in enlightening people on “the dangers of spreading unverified information particularly through the social media and to condemn such acts and as a duty also, to educate their subjects on the negative attitudes of taking the law into their hands at the slightest provocation.”

The statement also advised the administration  to “immediately institute a high-powered Committee of Inquiry and a reconciliation medium to effectively deal with the post-crisis situation.”

The NBA’s statement stressed the need for “all residents to continue to live together as brothers and sisters the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended having permitted all persons to live and settle in any community of their choice thus becoming part and parcel of such communities.”
