Niger Republic: Buhari blasts coupists
…rejects violent change, warns the world’s watching
Nigeria’s President Muhammad Buhari has lambasted the coupists of Niger Republic for resorting to violent overthrow of the government, describing the aborted coup of March the 31st, 2021 as “naive”.
Buhari, who reportedly spoke to his Nigerien counterpart on telephone expressed deep concern over the “negative impact of coups on African stability, peace and progress”.
He explained that Nigeria “cannot be indifferent to these dangers to Africa. Coups are out of fashion and the involvement of the military in violent change of government is doing more harm than good to Africa.”
Buhari then declared : “it is utterly naive to attempt the removal of an elected government by force…Military political adventurers should respect the will of the people and respect constitutional order.”
He then warned that “the international community is hostile to the change of government by violent and unconstitutional means.”
