Northern group wants Saraki removed, seeks one million signatures
A Northern political pressure group, the Arewa Solidarity Front (ASF) has called for the immediate removal of Senate President Bukola Saraki. The group also declared that plans have reached advanced stage for the collection of one million signatures in favor of the Senator Saraki’s removal by his colleagues.
A statement made available to newsmen and signed by the group’s Chairman, Bello Bashir and Secretary Bitrus Magaji disclosed expressed disenchantment with the performance of the Senator, who they said emerged as President through fraudulent process.
The group said it has been following with keen interest, happenings in the National Assembly in the last three(3) years and “wish to register our disappointment with the poor leadership of the Senate by Senator Bukola Saraki”, it blared.
The group charged all Senators to save the image and restore the glory of the Senate by replacing Saraki, “who has so far cast the image of a leader with too many cases of corruption investigations.
“We make bold to say that it is unacceptable to allow incumbent Senate President to continue to ridicule the President and the country’s international image with avoidable controversies over budgets and clearance of Federal Government’s political appointees.”
The statement tasked Senate to take the appropriate democratic steps by pushing for the emergence of “a more competent, articulate Senate President who is familiar with the constitutional laws of our land and willing join hands with Mr. president in moving this country forward, for the overall interest of the electorate.”
The group also declared total allegiance to former Senate Minority Leader Mr. Godswill Akpabio, who recently defected to the APC, describing him as “a nationalist with strong democratic goodwill across both the North and Southern parts of Nigeria, in addition to enormous leadership qualities and experience.”
