Advocacy Network Nigeria (ANN), has appealed to members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), to consider fielding former governor Sule Lamido as the party’s Presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections.
North-Central Coordinator, of ANN Hon. Kabiru Sani Garkuwa, made the appeal in chart with Politics Today, in Jos.
“Lamido’s antecedents of consistent political ideology, makes him not to shiver, even at a time when a lot of party stalwarts were shifting their political base, at the time when even some founding fathers of the party were running away from it. The fact that he decided to stay put, is enough reason to canvassed for support on his behalf and to call on the party to give him the ticket, because he is a better candidate,” he said.
According to Garkuwa, the party needs people of firm political ideology, vast experienced in politics, administration and popularity across sections of Nigeria, to contest its presidency.
“Lamido has been a real progressive democrat, who has shown quality adherence to political ideology as a politician, quality of leadership as one-time minister and as Governor for eight years in his State,” he said.
The Coordinator said as they go about canvassing for support, they also see the urgent need to call on Sule Lamido to ensure that good structures are put in place for all his support groups in the North-Central zone.
“Our observations, have made us understand that, Sule Lamido support group in some States deserve to have better leadership in place and our conclusions is that Plateau State in particular deserves better leadership of the group than what is obtainable,” Garkuwa said.
He said Lamido, being a popular aspirants for all, should have people of like-minds in the leadership of his support group; “those that will carry everybody along, without discrimination, because the journey to victory at the primaries and possibly the general election requires proper planing.”
