Stalemate in the offing as Kaduna PDP leaders meet again
The Kaduna State PDP Gubernatorial Aspirants Unity Forum and the State Working Committee (SWC) have held an extraordinary meeting at secret location in the state capital.
A source at the meeting told Politics Today that the aim of the extraordinary sitting was to “fine-tune and harmonize a workable transparent, free and fair gubernatorial primaries”.
Beyond the main agenda however, according to the source, was the “vote of no confidence” passed on the State party Chairman, Mr. Hassan Hyet, who some governorship aspirants accused of acting out the script of PDP chieftain, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, whose preferred candidate for PDP governorship ticket is Rt Honorable Isa Ashiru Kudan. The aspirants feared that democratic ethics would be jeopardized by a compromised chairman and level-playing field would have been scuttled in the process.
Our source noted that the allegation of the four aspirants is fast assuming a perennial issue in the activities of the party and could lead to a stalemate over the emergence of the 2019 governorship candidate for the party, between the party chairman and Makarfi on one hand and the Aspirants Unity Forum on the other.
The extraordinary meeting was attended by former governor of the State, Alahaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, Senator Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi, Rt. Hon. Isah Ashiru Kudan; Hon Sani Sidi and Dr Mohammed Sani Bello.
It is not clear when next the party leadership will meet, but there are insinuations that a stalemate is in the offing.
