Uba Sani, not Elrufai, showed us solidarity in detention, until he too was arrested — Shehu Sani
Senator Shehu Sani has revealed that current Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State and “not Nasir Elrufai” stood in solidarity with him and other detained June 12 protesters, until the governor himself was eventually arrested by the military.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Daily Trust newspaper, Shehu Sani recounted the events leading up to their detention, saying, “We were arrested by the military for protesting against the government’s handling of the June 12 anniversary. But despite the risk, the Kaduna Governor, Uba Sani stood with us in detention, showing his support for our cause.”
When asked to clarify, Shehu Sani emphasized, “I meant Uba Sani, not El-Rufai when I said the Kaduna Governor stood with us, because Elrufai was unknown at the time of our battle with the military dictatorship. Governor Uba Sani’s courage and solidarity were a beacon of hope in our difficult moment.”
Shehu Sani continued, “Even when the military tried to intimidate him, Governor Uba Sani refused to back down. He stayed with us until he too was eventually arrested and taken away.”
The senator praised Governor Uba Sani’s courage, saying, “His actions showed that he is a true leader who stands by his principles, even in the face of adversity.”
