Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has shut down speculations of a possible alliance with Atiku Abubakar ahead of 2027, declaring unequivocally that he will run for president — not as anyone’s deputy.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics, Obi said.

“I’m going to contest for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and I believe I’m qualified for it.”

Quizzed about swirling rumours of teaming up with PDP’s Atiku, Obi dismissed the idea:

“Nobody has ever discussed that with me. People assume so many things. It’s not on the table.”

The former Anambra State governor reaffirmed his loyalty to the Labour Party but confirmed he is actively working with a broader coalition — including the African Democratic Congress — to unseat President Bola Tinubu.

“I’m part of a coalition that will produce a president with the capacity and compassion to save this country,” Obi said.

His declaration marks a clear line in the sand: in 2027, Peter Obi is not backing anyone — he’s in to win.
