Kaduna — A massive crowd on Saturday thronged the historic Murtala Mohammed Square, Kaduna, as Governor Uba Sani led a grand ceremony to receive thousands of defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The electrifying event, described as a political earthquake by observers, brought Kaduna to a standstill as top political figures, legislators, and grassroots supporters converged in a carnival-like atmosphere to celebrate what analysts say marks a decisive shift in the state’s political alignment.

In a highly symbolic show of unity and expanding influence, Governor Uba Sani personally welcomed a long list of PDP lawmakers from both chambers of the National Assembly and the Kaduna State House of Assembly, alongside other influential figures and former party executives.

Notable defectors include Hon. Amos Gwamna Magaji (Jaba/Zango Kataf), Hon. Donatus K. Matthew (Kaura), Hon. Sadiq Ango Abdullahi (Sabon Gari), Hon. Aliyu Mustapha Abdullahi (Ikara/Kubau), Hon. Abdulkarim Kero (Kaduna South), and Hon. Hussaini Muhammed Jalo (Igabi) — all members of the House of Representatives.

Others from the Kaduna State House of Assembly who joined the APC are Hon. Shehu Abubakar Nulge (Magajin Gari), Hon. Stingo Danlami (Kajuru), Hon. Ali Kalat (Jema’a), Hon. Henry Mahra (Jaba), Hon. Kantiok Emmanuel (Zonkwa), and Hon. Kambai Samuel (Zango Kataf).

The event was attended by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas; APC National Chairman, Hon. Nentawe Yilwatda; Honourable Minister of Environment, Malam Balarabe Abbas; members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC), and several National Assembly members.

Governor Uba Sani described the defections as “a profound affirmation of our shared vision for a more secure, prosperous, and united Nigeria,” noting that Kaduna’s embrace of the APC mirrors the deepening faith in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He assured the new entrants that the APC in Kaduna remains an open and inclusive platform “where no distinction exists between old and new members, but only a shared resolve to serve the people faithfully.”

Analysts say the defections, coming on the heels of earlier movements by former Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, Senators Shehu Sani, Danjuma Laah, and Suleiman Hunkuyi, underscore the growing dominance of the APC in Kaduna’s political space under Governor Uba Sani’s leadership.
