The United States has issued an urgent security alert, ordering all Americans in Venezuela to leave immediately amid escalating dangers. The warning highlights armed militias mounting roadblocks on major routes, raising fears of detention, harassment, and potential violence against U.S. citizens.
In its advisory, the U.S. Embassy stressed that Venezuela’s security situation is “extremely unstable and unpredictable,” with reports of militias stopping vehicles to target foreigners or Americans specifically. With international flights now resuming, the Embassy urged citizens to depart without delay, noting that consular support remains limited.
The Venezuelan government has dismissed the warning, calling it “exaggerated”, even as the U.S. stresses that the country remains under its highest travel advisory: Level 4 – Do Not Travel.
