Jubilation in Sokoto as Tribunal affirms Senator Wamakko’s victory

Wild jubilations have been reported in the ancient city Sokoto and villages as the State’s Elections Petitions Tribunal affirmed Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko as the duly-elected senator for Sokoto North Senatorial District.
The Senator, who is also the Sarkin Yamma of Sokoto was declared winner of the election by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the February 25th election, but his primary opponent and former Deputy Governor of the state, Mannir Dan’iya of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), went to the Tribunal to challenge his victory.
Ruling on the matter on Friday, Justice Josephine Oyefeso, chairperson of the panel, dismissed Dan’iya’s petition for lack of merit.
Oyefeso said the petitioner was unable to prove the allegations contained in the petition beyond reasonable doubt, as required by law.
